Our Big Boy

Silas is 9 weeks old! He had his 2 month check up today. He weights 14 lbs. 4 oz.! The nurse asked me if we were there for his 4 month check-up, I said, uh no. The doctor did a double-take when she walked in the room because he is so big. He's 23.75 inches. He's in the 95th percentile for weight and 80th percentile for height. GOOOOOO mama milk!!! He looks great and is right on track developmentally. I felt a bump behind his ear last week, but the doctor assured me it was just a lymph node.

Also, his future wife, Juniper, was born today. Congrats to Amba and her family!!!

Highlights of the Week/ Firehouse Visit/ Heart Day on the Square

It's been a busy week around here as usual. Enjoy the pictorial!

Silas and I went strollerskating while Vivien was in school on Thursday. It was really fun and a major workout. I felt awesome afterward! Even more awesome that I didn't fall on my face and totally embarrass myself! By the way, your center of gravity changes between the time you are 6 and 31. Who knew?

I broke out the make-up for a little fun. I taught Vivien where everything goes and how to apply it. Don't you think she did a lovely job? Very understated, I think.

Here is my Little Bird. He is so sweet and loves to give us the cutest smiles.

The video below just melts my heart.

My friend, Brenda, invited us to go on the fire station tour at the station near her house. Her daughter, Avery, is in Vivien's class at school plus our husbands work together. Fireman Jared needed an assistant to demonstrate Stop! Drop! And Roll! Vivien did a fine job!

She got to sit up in the firetruck!

Silas slept through the whole tour.

Here are the kids with Fireman Jared and Fireman Tony. Avery had a little crush on Fireman Tony. The moms had a little crush on Fireman Jared. Ha ha.

Yesterday was the annual Heart Day on the Square. It's a fundraiser for Congenital Heart Defect research. Mommy Jan came with us. Here she is with the kids before we left.

Enjoying a little snuggle time with Silas.

My good friend, Melody, and her beautiful girls came out to support the event again this year. Melody was pregnant with the little one at last years event.

Vivien enjoyed meeting the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. I'm sure Daddy didn't mind meeting them either.

Mommy Jan was telling us what a good thrower Vivien was at the carnival games.

The rest of the pictures were stolen from my friend, Rebecca's blog. She and her awesome family came out to support the event also for the second year in a row. Here is a picture of the balloon release in memory of the children who lost their battles with CHDs.

Vivien did the Euro-bungee again this year.

Handsome, just like his Daddy.

We are so grateful to our friends for coming out and supporting such an important cause to our family. :)

What We've Been Up To

We've been pretty busy around here settling into life as a family of four. Vivien has been enjoying Mother's Day Out twice a week, and ballet once a week. I've been enjoying my little guy. Jim has been plugging away at work. We have encountered a bit of a snag by way of a defiant 3 1/2 year-old, so we are working our way through it lovingly and hoping that the unpleasantness passes soon. I will admit that my spirit has been broken a time or two in dealing with this, but I know it's a phase and a difficult adjustment period for her. I'm so pleased she is enjoying school so much because it gives us a positive break so that we can regroup and reconnect.

I've decided to take the cloth diaper plunge. I have avoided it for so long, because I don't want to be called "crunchy" and because it seems so complicated. When I read posts on DAM about cloth diapering, I glaze over. I finally asked for help on the matter because I really want to do something more economical. Amba loaned me some diapers and pointed the way. Jackie loaned me some too and also gave me her perspective. It's not so hard after all! I'm trying a few different things to see what works the best for us.

Vivien is VIP this week at school. This means that she holds the flag for the Pledge, changes the date on the calendar (I think that's what she was telling me), leads the line, and most importantly she gets to keep Mr. Bumble for the week. Mr. Bumble is the class mascot. He lives with each child for a week and then we write in the class journal of his adventures. Unbeknownst to Vivien, Mr. Bumble sneaked in her room while she was sleeping. She will be surprised to see that when I add it to the journal for her to take on Thursday. She'll see it for the first time when her class does. Ha ha.
This picture needs no explanation.
His unofficial weight at 8 weeks is around 14 lbs. Chunkeroo!
She started acting silly once she realized she was being videoed, but Silas was obviously amused with her singing.

Silas was fussy before bedtime, so Daddy took him out to swing. Vivien joined in her favorite nightgown.
Tonight was Open House at Vivien's school. Here she is singing a song with Mrs. Gina and Mrs. Sherry. I've seen her do the motions of this song, but wasn't sure what she was singing. What's funny is that when they started singing, she wouldn't start until she went over and found her name to stand on. I guess that's where she goes for circle time.
Here she is showing off her little picture she made of herself. Her's is the only one with a necklace, just like her signature baltic amber necklace.
I could whip Jim for not retaking this picture. I had no idea it was like this until I downloaded it when we got home. It was such a cute picture, but Vivien decided to block her face with a bookmark. I actually look reasonably thin in this picture, so I'm not going to let her ruin it for me. Ha ha!

Tea Party

This was actually 3 weeks ago, but I just ran across this video and thought it was too cute not to share.

Today He Smiled

Silas smiled at us for the first time today. I mean a real meaningful smile with eye contact, and not just a gassy smile. It melted our hearts. I tried to get a video of him doing it, but of course he refuses to perform for the camera.

The Rest of Silas' Newborn Photo Shoot

Here is the complete photo shoot with Jackie Reitz when he was 10 days old. He is about twice this size now. Ha ha. Isn't he perfect?
